The Brave and the Lonely The Century Epic Struggle The War Torn Book 1 eBook Robert Vaughan

Someone once told me that the best philosophy to have when writing a book is to get your audience hooked within the first minute of them reading it. Robert Vaughan delivers in this regard!

Admittedly, I knew and cared very little about WW2 when I bought this book, and I bought it at it's introductory price to try a book in a genre I wouldn't normally read.

I care now. I care about World War 2. It was that good. The author's attention to detail and character psychology made the military scenes feel like something out of a movie, and while the bulk of the book deals with interpersonal romance between the characters outside of a military situation, the author manages to weave his characters into some of the biggest and most recognizable military events of World War 2.

I am very glad I bought this book. It was a meaty and enjoyable read.

If you are an avid reader of this WW2 fiction, then you will likely get even more out of the book than me. In any instance, expect a well-written, enjoyable novel.

The Brave and the Lonely The Century Epic Struggle The War Torn Book 1 eBook Robert Vaughan Reviews

Good story line and kept my interest. I will not go into detail and post spoilers like so may do, but believe it was worth my time and money to read this book. This author peaked my interest and I do intend to read more of his books, so has done its job in releasing this book as a kindle edition.
I had to give up on this vapid and hackneyed yarn after a couple of hours. It seemed like a mashup of every WW2 era bad novel of young men getting caught in the the war. The characters seemed right out of a Mickey Rooney Andy Hardy film, corny, stereotypes and unreal. Hard to believe this is but one of four books in Mr. Vaughan's "War Torn" series. The two hours I spent reading this miserable novel was waste enough.
I downloaded Robert Vaughan's The Brave and the Lonely along with 7 other discounted ebooks recommended by a free and discounted ebook website. I put off reading The Brave and the Lonely until last because I thought it was going to be a bloody World War II war story. Yes the story takes place during WWII, but it is a captivating romance and revolves around those at home as much or more than the men on the battle field. Within the first couple of pages I knew I had something special and you will too.
Excellent read! My husband and I both read the American Chronicle series by this author. When we learned that Robert Vaughan started a new series, we couldn't wait to read it. This book follows a family thru World War II, beginning with the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He does an excellent job with character development, and you really feel empathy for the family members. All have their problems and situations. You feel like you are reading about the family next door. I just hope he does as good a job with this series as he did with the American Chronicle series. Some romance and a little sex, but nothing over the top. So far so good. You may have another winner here Mr. Vaughan.
The hurt and tribulations that thousands of families went through a senseless war. The dislocation of millions of persons, many of them that ended enslaved to an outdated political system and the birth of the destructive atomic force. The enormous sacrifices of countless families that saw their sons and daughters for the last time. Awesome reading.Conrad Samayoa
A WWII story. It was interesting. It was worth reading. There were times when it switched from one person/scene, etc., that seemed as if it should have been a new chapter, rather than just going on to the next paragraph.

I did not like the ending. I saw no need to kill off Martin. What about Yolinda, the never-should-have-been wife? Is she going to continue living with Martin's parents? Will she try to contact the doctor with whom she had the? Run after someone else? What about Martin's son? He seemed to close the book on Martin's girl friend and her expected baby.

Dottie and Jim have a joyful reunion after four year, Good! After that, there was no mention of a first time meeting with his nearly four year old daughter he's never seen. Any man I know would have been keenly interested in meeting his child for the first time. Should have been there not long after. She and the other two children are left playing near the depot while waiting for the train.

Charles was a wonderful character.

Pieces make a whole

A family is made out of individuals with different wants, needs and with their own thoughts on the family’s shared events and dramas. What I found most interesting about Mr. Vaughan’s novel, The Brave and the Lonely, was how he let us take a peek into how each member of the Holt family handled the madness of World War II.

The book begins before the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. I love how Mr. Vaughn allows his characters to be flawed individuals.

I really wanted there to be a happy-ever-after for all of the Holt family, but as in the real world, happy-ever-after is just an illusion.

The Brave and the Lonely is a wonderful peek into how a real family handles life and an interesting look into the hardships and losses of World War II.
